Neyan Shyam Kangayan; D.O.B: 17th May 2003 is a Tamilnadu born Indian cricketer who currently represents the state of Pondicherry in domestic level cricket. He played for Tamilnadu state team in Under- 14 category tournaments conducted by BCCI. He came to lime light during under-16 national level inter state Vijay Merhant Trophy 2018-19 season conducted by BCCI, when he scored Record Triple century (302 not out) against Goa. He finished the tournament as one of the leading run getters in the country with aggregate of 658 runs in 6 matches with 2 centuries and 2 half centuries which incudes the Mammoth 302 not out. He was the top run getter in South zone during the season 2018- 2019. He got selected for the South Zone and the camp conducted by National Cricket Academy (NCA). Due to his extraordinary season and skills, he was picked by Ruby Trichy Warriors to play in Tamilnadu Premier League (TNPL) for the season 2019 and became the youngest ever to make a TNPL debut at the age of 16 yrs.Neyan now represents Pondicherry state in Under-19 category. He is personally coached by Mr.Sree Kumar Nair since 2017, an Indian first class cricketer represented Kerala state in Ranji trophy . He was also a part of India under-19 squad. Sree Kumar Nair holds the record for highest individual score(306 not out) by Kerala batsmen in Ranji trophy.
Before the age of 10, Neyan has played more than 125 matches and have won around 40 ' Man of the Match' awards and also Best batsman, Best bowler and Best all rounder in many tournaments , with his score published in sports magazines and leading news papers.He has been interviewed in a TV channel ' Pudhiya Thalaimurai' at the age of 9.
Neyan Kangayan showed natural skill for cricket and was trained by his father until he was five years old & then started professional training from the age of 5 with YMCA coach , Sam. Sam gave the initial guidance and exposure to Neyan. From the age of 8 , he was trained by Lekshmi Kumar. Lekshmi Kumar is an Indian first class cricketer and head coach of WGCA cricket academy. Lekshmi kumar spotted Neyan's talent and gave the opportunity to play as an opening batsman in as many matches as he could and also honed his bowling skills. Indian cricketer and a first class cricket veteran Sreedharan Sriram mentored Neyan as a personal coach until Neyan moved to Johannesburg, South Africa in the year 2013.
In South Africa, Neyan studied at the King Edward VII Preparatory school (KEPS), Johannesburg, where he played for U-11A First Team as an opener and a bowler. KEPS has produced several International cricketers. He was the top scorer and the best all rounder in the under-11 A tournament for the season 2013 and his achievements got published in the school website KEPS.co.za and he was rated as the Best all rounder, Best batsman in the tournament conducted by lastmanstands.com. Starting 2014 , Neyan was selected to represent KEPS school First Team ( Under-13). He was then selected to represent the Gauteng East Province in the Under-13 category.
Neyan was personally mentored and coached by Jeff Levin, Head Coach, Wanderers Club. Jeff has been quite vocal and supportive about Neyan's capabilities and potential. In parallel, Neyan was coached by Lloyd Hobson, head coach, KEPS. It was a dream come true when Neyan met and coached with Gary Kirsten at the Cape town. Neyan also went through intense training for fielding with Jolene Camphor at Pretoria.
Neyan's father who had played for Tamilnadu junior state, runs a construction company and is a sports enthusiast, his mother an IT professional and his younger sister is in her schooling.
